Chairman

Spence Fraser Spencer Fraser
Mr. Fraser served in the Canadian Navy for 20 years, beginning in 1983. After working in a variety of Canadian frigates and destroyers, he was selected as the first Anglophone Canadian naval officer to serve on exchange with the French Navy. He has also served as a Project Director for the Directorate of Maritime Requirements Sea (DMRS). Prior to his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Fraser graduated from the Royal Military College and Kings College London, UK where he earned a Masters of Arts in Defence Studies. He also obtained an MBA from Queen's University, Kingston and is a certified Member of the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta (CMA). He is currently the President and General Manager of Meggitt Training Systems Canada Inc.

Vice Chairman

Doug Hanna Doug Hanna
Doug Hanna was born and raised in Diamond City, Alberta. He received both a bachelor's and master's degree in mechanical engineering from Brigham Young University. Mr. Hanna began working for the Canadian Department of Defence at Defence R&D Canada - Suffield, near Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1982 conducting research in ground vehicle mobility. He became Head/Vehicle Concepts Group in 1987 than Head/Tactical Vehicle Systems Section in 1996. Over approximately 10 years, he was instrumental in advancing a more comprehensive program in robotics research. The culmination of this effort was program growth and the reorganization of the previous section to the current Autonomous Intelligent Systems Section, of which he is the current section head.

Directors

Rolf Brandt Rolf Brandt
Born in Munich, Germany, Rolf Brandt joined the German Air Force in 1984 after graduating from the Technical College in Munich. During his 22 year military career he held many out of country postings. Mr. Brandt has an Instructor WSO licence for the Tornado Fighter Bomber. During his last posting to the US, he served as a senior flight instructor. He was then assigned the position of Senior Operations Officer in Holloman AFB, New Mexico. After retiring in 2006, he joined Serco Facilities Management Inc. where he currently serves as the Flight Operations Manager in Goose Bay, NL. With experience in UAS operations, his focus is to provide the best and most flexible airspace available in Canada for the testing and operation of UAS.
Andrew Carryer Andrew Carryer
Mr. Carryer of Richmond, British Columbia, has been a Director of CCUVS since 2009. He is a Business Development Manager at MDA with expertise in Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Over the years he has been a member of various Canadian and NATO working groups related to UAS operations. Mr. Carryer previously served as a Director for Unmanned Vehicle Systems Canada (UVS Canada) and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI-Canada). Currently, he is a Director of Unmanned Systems Canada and Chairman for the Vancouver Chapter of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. Mr. Carryer holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University and Masters of Applied Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Carleton University.
Greg Luoma Dr. Greg Luoma - President, LuomaTech Inc.
Dr. Luoma is the President of LuomaTech Inc, a strategic planning and technology consulting company. He is a technology leader with over 30 years experience in the defense and security industry, combining broad technical expertise with strong business acumen to produce world leading solutions. From 2004-2008, he was Chief Technology Officer at General Dynamics Canada, a Canadian defense company, where he restructured the technology development program to greatly enhance its impact on business success. He is a member of several boards, including Alberta Innovates Technology Futures and the University of Calgary Institute for Quantum Information Science.
Dave Peace David Peace
David began flying when he was 15. From gliders to single engine recreational planes in his personal time, and recce and utility helicopters in his 22 year Canadian Airforce career, David has flown over much of the Western hemisphere. After 20 years of full-time service culminating as the Commanding Officer of 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Edmonton, David still serves as a Reserve Lieutenant Colonel with the military, while working full-time as the Senior Director for Aerospace and Defence with the Government of Alberta's Finance and Enterprise Department.
Elvira Smid Elvira Smid
Elvira Smid is Director-Medicine Hat Region in the Alberta Ministry of Finance and Enterprise. She has worked in economic development for the Government of Alberta for eleven years, ten in the Regional Development Branch and one with the Alberta Economic Development Authority. Elvira attended the University of Manitoba (BHEc, and C.Ed.), has an Economic Development Certificate from the University of Waterloo and completed the Banff Centre's Leadership Development Program. She spent 30 months working in international development in Brazil. Upon returning to Canada, she worked as a Rural Development Specialist with the Alberta Ministry of Agriculture, and was a business analyst with Community Futures before moving on to her present position.
